Registration is now open for the Azle Lake Run, celebrating its 40th year in Azle on Saturday, Nov. 13. Start times, maps, online registration and all pertinent information can be found at RunAzle.org. You can also follow the Azle Lake Run on Facebook for news and possible sales.
The race includes a half-marathon, 10K, 5K and one-mile Fun Run, with cash prizes for the half marathon of $100 for 3rd place, $150 for 2nd place and $250 for 1st place. Medals will be awarded to winners in other races. All races begin and end in Azle's Ash Creek Park, 605 Southeast Parkway.
Race routes wind through scenic Azle neighborhoods and include a couple of pretty steep hills, challenging runners both novice and experienced.
Race Directors Jessica Brace Payne and Mendi Carlson are returning this year, aided by committee members Clay Collins, Nate Simmons, Donnie Ostermann and Leesa Wolf.
Look for a 1980s Retro theme on race day, dating back to the Lake Run's beginning in 1981. This will carry through to the design of the official Azle Lake Run 40th Anniversary t-shirt.
Vendor booth spaces are available for $50 each, and church teams are needed to cook up a pancake breakfast for an expected 500 runners. Contact a committee member or email director@azlema.com for more information.
