Dr. David Shaffer, event chair, introduces the Azle High School Choir to sing the National Anthem during The National Day of Prayer 2023.

The Azle community has long participated in the National Day of Prayer.

It began with a small gathering behind City Hall, moved to the Central Park’s amphitheater before settling in at 404 Main Place. The move indoors took place in 2014 when local newspaper publisher Kim Ware took the role as chair, turning this event into a well-attended, special luncheon.

The Azle Area Ministerial Alliance is host for the event each year, with one of its members taking the helm as chair along with several key volunteers helping with fundraising, decorations, advertising, etc.

This past year, the program highlights included the Azle High School Chorale leading the 100+ attendees in the National Anthem, a wonderful meal by Caitlyn’s Catering, a tremendous keynote address by a seminary professor from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, seven community leaders praying over key sectors in our community and nation, and a soloist closing out the program with “The Prayer.”

Thanks to the generosity of local individuals and businesses, the Azle Area Ministerial Alliance was able to offer this event free of charge to all who attended.

People left feeling happy, closer to the Lord, connected to this community and thinking, “That was well worth my time!”

This event is held nationwide on the first Thursday each year, and you are cordially invited to our next celebration of the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 2, 2024, from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
